The project seeks to provide a significant response, which entails lasting actions over time, to create and improve river ecosystems in the Segura basin as it passes through Orihuela, in addition to mitigating the risk of flooding.

Orihuela City CouncilREFLUX MI RIO proposes to improve the Segura in the area of the town of Orihuela. To condition its banks and transform its groves (which are neglected) to provide the river with more capacity and thus reduce the effects of flooding. The project will achieve a recovery of riparian forests that will lead to a substantial increase in the biodiversity of birds and fauna associated with these riparian habitats.
Some of the actions included in this project are:
- Recover the banks of the Segura River, as well as several groves.
