The Valdemedé stream runs from south to north through the Badajoz region of Tierra de Barros, transporting its waters from the Sierra de los Santos to discharge them into the Alange reservoir.
In Ribera del Fresno, a municipality that crosses from south to north, this stream has already been the subject of different actions aimed at the protection and environmental improvement of its surroundings, as well as, and as a priority, the prevention of flood risk.
Ribera del Fresno has been suffering for years from the effects of the flooding of the Valdemedé stream which, in November 2020, caused great damage and destruction in the municipality. Climate change and the changes made to the riverbed, which have cut its section in the urban part, are behind this situation. To improve the quality of life of the riverside population, the project seeks to adapt the Valdemedé riverbed and its surroundings, restoring its original course and giving it the importance it deserves.
