Sustainability in dyeing and finishing processes through investments for savings in consumption and reduction of waste

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

GRAU S.A. is a medium-sized company with a production plant in Castellar del Vallès (Barcelona) specialising in the textile sector, offering a wide range of products and services to the market in terms of dyes and finishes of all types of fibres (animal, vegetable, artificial, synthetic and their mixtures, recycled, organic…), giving rise to quality solutions of any composition, both for the fashion sector (shirts, trousers, coats, suits, swimsuits…) and for technical fabrics (PPE, automotive, public transport…).

The project is expected to increase the degree of environmental protection of GRAU’s operations through state-of-the-art machinery and a comprehensive automation system that cuts across the entire fabric dyeing process. It will allow maximum control and precision in operations, reducing the probability of error and the need for remanufacturing that generates waste and triggers the consumption of raw materials.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials, such as dyes, detergents, defoamers, etc., in the company’s textile production processes by up to 30-50% depending on the substance and the textile material being treated. This will be possible mainly due to the increased efficiency of the new dyeing equipment.

At the same time, it is also intended to achieve a reduction in the generation of waste of practically half, going from having a generation of 4% to 2%, which will be channeled through the new designs and mechanical processes of the equipment to be incorporated and the automation systems that will be implemented in an integral way in the process. These advances will greatly reduce the obtaining of fabric with defects, since friction and stretching of the fabrics will be minimized and the operating conditions can be better controlled, avoiding having to undo the process and start again.
