The project develops knowledge of its green and blue infrastructure and the management of invasive exotic species present in the municipality, to guarantee the durability and continuity of the actions it undertakes on the ground. Among the proposed actions, the promotion of urban biodiversity through the creation of microhabitats, the ecological restoration of ponds, ponds and part of the urban river network, as well as the control of invasive exotic species, stand out. The project includes replicable pilot actions such as the creation of climate shelters in schools, the creation of environmental classrooms in the natural environment of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods or the design of a new “edible neighbourhood” based on an agroecological approach.
STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE: The project proposes a 180-degree turn of the city towards urban renaturalisation, to transform Girona into a greener, more resilient and healthier city: urban planning, improvement and connection of green and blue infrastructure, transversal integration of Nature-based solutions, promotion of a more liveable city, social transformation, cogeneration of knowledge and shared governance.
