The project “A multicolored planet!” aims to promote the conservation of terrestrial biodiversity among children.

The project “A multicoloured planet!”, launched by the Escuelab Association, aims to promote the conservation of terrestrial biodiversity by contributing to improving knowledge about terrestrial habitats, their valuation and their protection among the child population.

This initiative has sought to publicize the daily actions that favor the conservation of terrestrial ecosystems to schoolchildren between five and eight years old. Educational material has been made available for use in schools in order to bring children closer to new concepts related to the protection of Spanish terrestrial habitats through play and fun.

To this end, two types of educational materials have been produced and distributed, both in video and in workbooklets, and 16 environmental education workshops have been held, focused on improving knowledge about the terrestrial environment and the conservation tools available to students.

Some of the activities that have been implemented within the framework of the project are:

  • Produce the educational video: “A multicolored planet!”.
  • Prepare, edit and print a workbook.
  • Prepare and plan environmental education workshops for knowledge of terrestrial habitats and conservation strategies.
  • Implementation of the environmental education programme.
  • Dissemination, monitoring and evaluation of the project.

As for the dissemination of the results of the project, the initiative has finally been aimed at primary school students from public and state-subsidised schools, as well as their teachers, promoting the conservation of terrestrial biodiversity and contributing to improving knowledge about terrestrial habitats, their valuation and protection. The video and the workshop have obtained 886 and 598 views respectively, the workshop has finally been taught in more than 200 centers, 14 volunteers have collaborated, 486 children and 33 adults have participated in the activities.

There were 30 people who attended the presentation event and 505 surveys were carried out. The project has obtained very positive rates of satisfaction and learning, and once the project execution period has closed, expressions of interest continue to be received to teach the workshop through the website of the Escuelab Association from where anyone can access the materials designed specifically for the workshops free of charge. Within the framework of all the projects that Escuelab carries out, he received the National Education Award for entities that promote scientific culture, awarded in 2015 by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
