The ECOPLANGRE project has a double objective: to reduce the pollution of waters and seabeds caused by the intensive use of luminaires and batteries in the longline fleet and to contribute to the selectivity of fishing gear to prevent the accidental capture of protected species.
The ECOPLANGRE project has a double objective: to reduce the pollution of waters and seabeds caused by the intensive use of luminaires and batteries in the longline fleet and to contribute to the selectivity of fishing gear to prevent the accidental capture of protected species.
To achieve these objectives, the following actions have been outlined:
- New fishing lights that replace batteries with batteries that are recharged by means of solar panels or a grid charger. These batteries have a useful life of 3000 charge-discharge cycles achieving greater energy efficiency; It includes automatic ignition systems by detecting light and humidity, which reduces handling on board. It also incorporates its own system of connecting the luminaire with the art, reducing the loss of devices.
- Artificial bait made from materials similar to fishmeal, which is arranged inside a plastic casing that simulates the shape of traditional bait species in longline fishing (mackerel and squid). The use of this artificial bait leads to savings in the consumption of bait species (mackerel and squid) and savings in fuel once on board as it does not need refrigeration.
