The project consists of the improvement of the habitat and the recovery of the margins to promote the stability of the fauna populations in the environment.
To this end, the otter (Lutra lutra), the largest semi-aquatic mammal in the Iberian Peninsula, will be used as a bioindicator species, which serves as an indicator of the natural state of the region’s riverbeds. Indirectly, other fauna species will be favoured, recovering the trophic and natural chain of the environment.
More specifically, it is intended to:
- To improve the fauna populations of the environment with greater availability of shelter and food.
- Recover the landscape of the area.
- Protect river banks, avoiding erosive processes.
The planned actions consist of:
- Planting of native tree and shrub species in order to increase plant cover on river banks and increase the areas of refuge for populations.
- Selective clearing in areas where existing scrub and macrophyte species do not allow the development of other species.
- Environmental restoration of degraded areas.
- Construction of artificial shelters for species such as the otter.
- Preparation of leaflets for the dissemination of the performances.
