The FSC has completed the project ‘Active conservation of habitats and birds, through FSC certification of forest management and land stewardship’. An initiative that has been supported by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition in the framework of its 2017 call for grants.
The project has worked on a total of 309.31 hectares from 5 private holders of FSC Forest Management certificates. In these spaces, studies and characterization of 12 habitats have been carried out, of which 5 are priorities, and up to 40 species of birds have been evaluated. 7 Reports on the state of conservation of habitats and birds at local level have been drafted. For the good maintenance of the areas, 5 conservation plans and management and restoration measures have been drawn up in different selected study areas, managing to establish 2 land stewardship agreements with the implementation of 9 conservation measures in each one. The Communication Plan prepared has consisted of the publication of 3 press releases; the holding of a workshop that has brought together project participants and stakeholders; finally, the preparation of a final report of the results obtained, focused on the replicability of the active conservation of habitats and birds.
