The actions carried out in Adaptaneed have made it possible to increase knowledge for the resilience of Spanish strategic infrastructures to the impacts of extreme weather events derived from climate change.

Metroeconomica was a beneficiary in the 2017 Call for Grants for the implementation of the project “ADAPTANEED: Adaptation needs in strategic infrastructures in Spain and R+D+i opportunities”. The objective has been to provide a standardized analysis of the state of knowledge in Spain for adaptation in strategic infrastructures of public and private management, in response to its current and future adaptation deficit.

The actions carried out in Adaptaneed have made it possible to increase knowledge for the resilience of Spanish strategic infrastructures to the impacts of extreme weather events derived from climate change. The project, in turn, has expanded information on possible adaptation solutions, interviewing providers of such measures. This allows you to identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you can improve them in the future.

The project process has consisted of the assessment of the current and future adaptation deficit in Spanish strategic infrastructures. At the macro level, a pilot case has been carried out to analyse the risks associated with extreme climatic events of heat and precipitation covering the entire national territory. At the micro level, a pilot case has been carried out to analyse the risks and costs of climate change in the energy sector (hydropower subsector). After the analysis of these infrastructures, the adaptation deficit that currently exists was monetized, which would be aggravated in the future. Subsequently, a conceptual framework for standardising adaptation solutions in strategic infrastructures in the face of current and future climate risks was developed. All this will be followed by the preparation of an R+D+I diagnostic report for adaptation in strategic infrastructures, which includes an analysis of R+D+i opportunities and new unexplored services in the field of adaptation in strategic infrastructures in Spain.

For the dissemination of the results, press releases, submissions of the executive summary and presentation days have been prepared.
