The project consists of an awareness campaign to reduce waste generation and commit to reuse as a strategy against climate change. The overall objective is the prevention of pollution and climate change related to the generation of urban waste.
The project consists of an awareness campaign to reduce waste generation and commit to reuse as a strategy against climate change. The overall objective is the prevention of pollution and climate change related to the generation of urban waste.
The initiative aims to send the message that the direct consequence of a better use of our resources through reuse and recycling favours the reduction of greenhouse gases, which is a direct contribution to curbing climate change.
In addition, it is intended to promote reuse and recycling, as one more measure for the prevention of waste generation and an alternative for responsible consumption.
The specific objectives are:
- Promote reuse and recycling habits as a priority strategy for waste management, pollution prevention and the fight against climate change.
- To disseminate the direct relationship between the reuse and recycling of waste and the reduction of GHGs (Greenhouse Gases).
A promotional spot for the campaign and an informative dossier will be made in digital format to disseminate it. This will explain everything related to the environmental benefits related to the prevention, reuse and recycling of waste, in addition to informing about where the tool can be found to calculate avoided emissions. The dossier, in electronic format, will be disseminated through the website, electronic newsletters and social networks.
A CO2 avoidance calculator will also be developed, so that citizens can check the emissions they save with their habits linked to the prevention, reuse and recycling of potential waste.
To this end, a comparative study of GHG emissions will be carried out, in order to determine the positive impact of reuse and recycling. The different representative potentially reusable and recyclable items will be chosen, which will be used as an example in the calculator. On the other hand, the different variables and phases that influence the life cycle of these items and that emit CO2 will be analyzed to determine equivalences of tons of CO2 avoided for each item that is reused or recycled instead of discarded.
Finally, a report of conclusions will be written under the title “Report on Reuse Activity: Carbon Footprint and Life Cycle of products and their implications for GHG mitigation”.
