Agrosimbiosis, a living laboratory for agro-ecological transition in the Mar Menor basin (AgroSimbiosisLab)

MITECO

  • This is a pilot project to establish a system of “agroecological living laboratories” through agroecological restoration and the recovery of cultivated, associated and soil biodiversity on farms totaling 18.5 ha.
  • The project reinforces agroecology with a network of gastro-botanical gardens, working on the value chain (family consumption, public procurement, restaurants, regulations), training, capacity building and advice, dissemination and awareness raising.

Line of action:

Status:

En ejecución

Execution date:

2024

Total budget:

2.000.000 €

Amount of aid from the Biodiversity Foundation:

1.800.000 €

The main objective is to contribute to the recovery and conservation of the Mar Menor through a process of agro-ecological transition involving the entire agri-food sector.

Specific goals include:

  • Promote governance and citizen participation.
  • Establish a network of “laboratories” (farms) for agroecological transition.
  • Adapt laboratories for gastrobotanical innovation (“gastrobotanical gardens”).
  • Promote an agroecological value chain in the Mar Menor basin.
  • To develop training, advisory and results transfer activities.
  • Agroecological restoration of soil and biodiversity on 18.5 hectares.
  • Production of inputs for an agroecological circular bioeconomy, taking advantage of pruning and avoiding its disposal by burning or landfill.
  • Diversification of cultivated biodiversity, growing more than 100 different species and varieties.
  • Conducting trials on water and salt stress and on the quality of promising crops.
  • Development of an agroecological value chain through meetings to establish new production, distribution and consumption models.
  • Agroecological education and training actions and advice to farmers, as well as campaigns for the dissemination and transfer of results.
