Analog Forestry for the Ecological Restoration of the Mediterranean Region

MITECO

The International Foundation for Ecosystem Restoration (FIRE), with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, has developed the Analog Forestry for the Ecological Restoration of the Mediterranean Region project, which aims to establish the foundations that allow the development of analogous forests in the Mediterranean region, especially in Spain, as a tool for ecosystem restoration and sustainable land use.

The project has made it possible to adapt the Analog Forestry methodology to the particularities of Mediterranean ecosystems. The report “Analog Forestry and Climate Change” contemplates for the first time adaptation to climate change in the methodology of Analog Forestry. The databases and repositories generated make it easier for technicians and managers as well as the general public to design and implement projects in this area in Spain. The creation of the first Mediterranean Network of Analogue Forestry is a key aspect to disseminate and promote the use of this tool, its adaptation to the Mediterranean and to initiate demonstration projects, as has been initiated in this project.
