BAJUREC IV, like BAJUREC III, is proposed to improve the management of waste generated by the fishing sector and reduce the amount of waste existing in coastal areas and the sea, contributing to a better conservation of marine biological resources and the protection of the maritime areas of the Natura 2000 Network.
Specific objectives of the project
To obtain information on the situation of existing waste infrastructures and the use made of them in Spanish fishing ports.
To make available to the authorities and the interested public the current situation of waste infrastructures and the use made of them in Spanish fishing ports so that appropriate decisions can be taken to allow adequate treatment of waste avoiding its dumping at sea.
The project consists of continuing to collect objective information on the situation of waste and discard infrastructures in Spanish fishing ports to incorporate it into the database created in BAJUREC III, so that the competent authorities can take the appropriate measures to allow optimal treatment of waste by avoiding its dumping into the sea. In order to address it, the project has been divided into three phases, the first phase being BAJUREC III, which is currently being carried out, collecting data in the fishing ports of Andalusia and Galicia, the present project, BAJUREC IV that will act in the autonomous communities of Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Murcia and part of the Valencian Community and a next phase that will allow us to conclude the study with the collection of data in the Balearic and Canary Islands and the rest of the ports of the Valencian Community.
The Clean Landscape Association presents the results obtained in the fourth phase of the BAJUREC project, where data has been collected in 102 fishing ports in the North Atlantic and Levantine-Balearic marine demarcations to find out the situation of the waste deposit infrastructures in these facilities.
The project completes the collection of data in fishing ports throughout the peninsula, reaching 263 ports analysed. In a fifth phase, Clean Landscape will carry out in 2022 the monitoring of the infrastructures for the deposit of waste in the ports of the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and Ceuta, thus concluding the BAJUREC Project. The information obtained has been uploaded to a GIS map, which is available to everyone on the Clean Landscape – BAJUREC Project website, where detailed files can be found for each fishing port, with information on the general characteristics of the port, its facilities, fishing activity, waste generated, clean points and infrastructures on land.
The objective of this study carried out by Paisaje Limpio is to improve the management of waste generated by the fishing sector and reduce the amount of waste existing in coastal areas and the sea. This project is available to the competent authorities so that they can take the appropriate measures to allow optimal treatment of waste, avoiding dumping into the sea. Measures to be taken by EU member states in accordance with the transposition of the Directive on port reception facilities for the delivery of waste from ships.
The BAJUREC IV project has been developed with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Pleamar Programme, co-financed by the EMFF.
