Bases for a National Strategy for the Conservation of the Dupont’s Lark

MITECO

The Duponti’s Lark (Chersophilus duponti) is one of the most endangered birds in Spain and Europe. This project of the Autonomous University of Madrid aims to lay the scientific foundations for the development of the National Strategy for the conservation of the species. To this end, the company’s own information from years of continuous work will be used, in addition to the support of all the administrations involved in its conservation. Statistical and cartographic analysis techniques will be used to assess the degree of threat to populations and define critical factors, in accordance with the provisions of Article 11 of Royal Decree 139/2011, to facilitate the application of Article 56.1 of Law 42/2007. This project is part of what is suggested by the Action Plan for the species in the EU, and should serve as an inspiring document for Recovery and Conservation Plans to be prepared and approved by the Autonomous Communities, in compliance with Article 56 of Law 42/2007.

In order to establish a national strategy, the UAM has planned a series of actions, starting with the bibliographic review and compilation of information on the Dupont’s lark, to continue with the preparation of these data for the analysis and the preparation of digital cartography on habitats, distribution areas and populations; and, finally, proceed to the preparation of a final report with the results of the data analysis that will be presented at a working meeting on the management and conservation of the species.
