The economic, social and environmental imbalances present in the Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve require the implementation of environmental and social quality systems, which allow the existing situation to be improved and social well-being, economic growth and environmental protection to be recovered in the medium and long term.

The project “QUALITY – BERNESGA: Actions for the improvement of the environmental and social quality of the Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve” is a tool to improve the environmental and social quality of the Biosphere Reserve through the training of the population in activities related to the environment, the creation of green jobs and the implementation of the quality mark “Alto Bernesga – Biosphere Reserve”. Within this framework, it is also planned to promote information and social participation actions.

The Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve, designated by UNESCO in 2005, comprises two municipalities, La Pola de Gordón and Villamanín, located in the Central Mountain of León.
