This project is the first phase of a broader research that will cover the identification of pathogens of berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries) and auxiliaries for autochthonous biological control in the Iberian Peninsula.
This project is the first phase of a broader research that will cover the identification of pathogens of berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries) and auxiliaries for autochthonous biological control in the Iberian Peninsula.
The objective of the initiative is to expand scientific and technical knowledge to promote the development and implementation of biological control for pest control in strawberry, raspberry and blueberry crops in Spain, through native auxiliaries, which prevent the appearance of ecological imbalances.
More specifically, it is intended to:
- Identify the pathogens that generate pests in berry crops.
- Make a selection of native auxiliaries distributed in the Iberian Peninsula, which can be used for the biological control of pests in these crops.
- List the auxiliaries that can be used for the biological control of pests in these fruits.
Activities to be developed include:
- Review of documentation and bibliography.
- Surveys and interviews with companies and farmers who are dedicated to the cultivation of berries.
- Sampling and observation of interactions between individuals or populations within the ecosystem on farms intended for these crops.
