The objective of the Blue Flag Program (free for participating municipalities and ports) is to achieve accessible, clean, safe beaches and marinas, which have adequate information, education and environmental management tools.
The objective of the Blue Flag Program (free for participating municipalities and ports) is to achieve accessible, clean, safe beaches and marinas, which have adequate information, education and environmental management tools.
To this end, it is intended to improve the environmental awareness and training of municipal technicians and politicians responsible for the management of the more than 600 beaches on the Spanish coast, which annually opt to obtain a Blue Flag award. In addition, a quantitative and qualitative improvement of the environmental information and education actions carried out is sought, with special attention to biodiversity and natural heritage.
The specific objectives are:
- Selection of good practices in terms of information, awareness, education and environmental training from the 225 coastal municipalities candidates for the Blue Flag awards.
- Creation and/or adaptation of training materials on environmental information and education on Atlantic beaches, based on the data obtained in the activity.
- Holding of training sessions for technicians and politicians responsible for coastal municipalities in Galicia and Asturias.
- Promotion of the participation of coastal municipalities in the development of environmental initiatives.
- Dissemination of good practices and results, within and outside the context of the Blue Flag programme.
