The “Construye en Verde” project seeks to increase the capacities of companies and workers in the building and rehabilitation sector in terms of environmental sustainability.
All this in order to promote a change towards a more sustainable activity in companies in the building and rehabilitation sector in Spain, which reduces the environmental impact generated by their activities.
To this end, a series of actions will be developed:
- Creation of tools, through the development of methodological guides on sustainable building and rehabilitation.
- Teaching of courses, to publicize practices for improving sustainability and how to improve competitiveness in companies in the building and rehabilitation sector.
- Dissemination of the project through various communication channels, to raise awareness of the importance of rehabilitation and sustainable building.
The overall objective is to promote employment in the sustainable construction and renovation market segment. It aims to achieve this objective at two strategic levels: training at a technical level and training and support in entrepreneurship as well as, where appropriate, redefining business models to offer new services and products. Behind this strategy is the idea that self-employment in this sector is vital to activate innovative initiatives.
The recipients of the project will be around 80% of hired professionals and self-employed entrepreneurs, or with micro-enterprises, directly related to the construction sector. In particular, it is estimated that 45% will be workers located in areas subject to depopulation, rural areas and in protected areas.
The unemployment rate and the fall in companies in the areas where the project is executed, specifically in relation to the construction sector, is significantly higher than in other municipalities. On the other hand, the restoration potential of these enclaves is greater than in cities, given the old and traditional housing stock, which allows us to estimate an opportunity for local entrepreneurship in accordance with the objectives of the project.
The project will allow training to 60 recipients, although it will reach a total of 480 workers. Within the framework of the project, five companies will be created and as many others related to sustainable construction will be reconverted.
