The Cantabrian Association in favor of people with intellectual disabilities (AMPROS) was a beneficiary in the 2017 Call for Grants with the project “Camino Lebaniego: EcoCultural Itinerary of the Mountain“, which aims to initiate the transformation of the Camino Lebaniego, a historic pilgrimage route in Cantabria, into a Green Infrastructure and turning it into a multifunctional path.
Thanks to the project, riverside forests and hedges have been reforested in several municipalities around the Lebaniego road, walls and water points have been fixed, some old trees have been managed and some invasive exotic species have been eliminated. The project has had the participation of volunteers and the labor integration of people with disabilities. The long-term goal is to convert the road into a green infrastructure, with the consequent social, cultural and ecological benefits.
