FUNDAMAR promotes among its strategies the guarantee of the environmental, economic and social sustainability of the fishing sector. The objective of the project is to reduce the mortality of vulnerable species such as elasmobranchs, through the development of the XUNTOS Campaign “Sustainable Exploitation through Shark as a Unit Landing Operations”, for the improvement of the management and sustainable use of elasmobranch species, through the promotion and compliance with the new Regulation (EU) No. 605/2013, on the cutting off of shark fins on ships.
To this end, an Expert Forum will be developed for the identification of measures aimed at making it mandatory to land sharks with their fins naturally attached to the body and as well as the preparation of an “Informative Guide on Management and Sustainable Use of Elasmobranch Species” and the development of a conference aimed at marine professionals.
