Climate Change Adaptation from a Comprehensive Perspective

MITECO

The initiative aims to raise awareness among key actors and the general public about the importance of Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and the adoption of concrete adaptation measures.

The initiative aims to raise awareness among key actors and the general public about the importance of Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and the adoption of concrete adaptation measures.

In this way, it contributes to the integration of the CCA approach in the most relevant sectoral planning and in the management of critical territories and species, for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems at the end of the Second Work Programme of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (2014).

The specific objectives are:

  • Contribute to the mobilization of key actors, both from the public and private sectors, mainly in the agricultural and forestry sectors for the definition of a series of measures to adapt to climate change.
  • Integrate the climate change adaptation approach into WWF projects on the ground at different levels for the assessment of vulnerability to climate change and the definition of adaptation measures.
  • Promote the integration of climate change adaptation into sectoral policies by including it in key diagnosis, planning and legislation documents.
  • To increase the information and awareness of the general public and different sectors regarding the impacts of climate change.

To this end, work will be carried out on four main strategic lines:

Training and mobilization of key actors. Work will be done with two sectors, agriculture and forestry, in participatory processes so that their representatives are sensitized.

National and regional policy and planning. Through processes of allegations and consultations and participation in different groups of experts, an attempt will be made to include the ACC approach in the sectoral regulations and in the sectoral strategies, plans and programmes in whose drafting or proposed modification the WWF Spain team participates.

Integration of the ACC approach into WWF projects. Through various actions such as climate change vulnerability studies, training sessions and workshops, the foundations will be laid for the subsequent adoption of CCA measures in the entity’s projects.

Communication strategy. It includes different communication actions to mobilize key actors and increase the information and awareness of society in general regarding the issue.
