Climate-Committed Food: An Initiative to Reduce CO2 Emissions

MITECO

The Food Committed to the Climate initiative seeks to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of all actors in the Spanish food chain by promoting actions by the actors involved (producers, industry, distribution and consumption) and raising awareness among both them and citizens.

The Food Committed to Climate initiative seeks to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of all actors in the Spanish food chain by promoting actions by the actors involved (producers, industry, distribution and consumption) and raising awareness among both them and citizens. These measures aim to implement a low-carbon climate-friendly diet. The Ecology and Development Foundation (Ecodes) has been in charge of launching this project that has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation through its 2015 call for grants.

Some of the actions that have been carried out have been the identification and contact with the main actors in the food chain to whom a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and/or climate action will be proposed , framing it within the project “1 million climate commitments”.

In addition, the entities participating in the mobilization campaigns have also been supported to achieve the commitment of stakeholders and a contest of “recipes committed to the climate” has been held, with an awards ceremony and videos of the winning recipes.
