The University of Almería was a beneficiary in the 2016 Call for Grants for the implementation of projects in the field of adaptation to climate change of the Biodiversity Foundation with the project “Social learning and co-production of knowledge for the conservation of jujube (Priority Habitat 5220) and the services it provides against Climate Change. CO-ADAPTS”. The objective of the project was to develop processes of co-learning and co-production of knowledge between researchers, managers and social actors for the conservation of jujube, a priority habitat dependent on groundwater, threatened by climate change and responsible for the provision of key ecosystem services in arid areas.
Throughout the CO-ADAPTA project, 96 people from the fields of science, management and society (belonging to 37 public/private institutions/entities) have worked together on the creation of a Climate Change Route in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Maritime-Terrestrial Natural Park so that society can learn about the effects of climate change through jujube.
