CO2 absorption and forest species, a tool for improvement

MITECO

The project consists of developing a methodology to assess the baseline level of the carbon dioxide sink present in stone pine formations with Mediterranean scrub.

The project consists of developing a methodology to assess the baseline level of the carbon dioxide sink present in stone pine formations with Mediterranean scrub.

The purpose is to study the absorption capacity of the plant formations corresponding to stone pine with Mediterranean scrub, in addition to establishing the basal sequestration capacity and the optimized sequestration capacity through silvicultural management.

To this end, activities will be carried out aimed at establishing the CO2 sequestering capacity of the vegetation to be studied and determining the biomass of these forest masses.

A cartography of the vegetation formation will be developed using a Geographic Information System (GIS), which will allow the spatial pattern of carbon dioxide sinks of the forest masses to be known.
