The project includes actions for the conservation of the Lesser Grey Shrike, a critically endangered species according to the Red Book of Birds of Spain.
The Lesser Grey Shrike, listed as “critically endangered” by the Red Book of Birds of Spain, is currently the most endangered vertebrate species in the Iberian Peninsula. The disappearance of the population of Lleida would mean a new extinction at the state level of an animal species.
The TRENCA association, in close collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and the Natural Environment of the Generalitat de Catalunya, has been working with the species since 2000, with encouraging results in recent seasons (return of chicks released through hacking).
The project is the ex situ continuation of the in situ conservation tasks of the Lesser Grey Shrike carried out by the Generalitat de Catalunya. To this end, chicks born in the breeding center of the species will be released, chicken rescue tasks will be carried out and adoptions will be launched. Other activities that will be carried out will be supplementary feeding, predator control and habitat improvement, among others.
