The initiative aims to contribute to the improvement of river ecosystems and the sustainable management of salmonid populations.

The initiative aims to contribute to the improvement of river ecosystems and the sustainable management of salmonid populations.

More specifically, the project focuses on the sustainable management of Atlantic salmon in the rivers at the southern end of their range.

The planned actions are as follows:

  1. Carrying out a census of Atlantic salmon broodstock.
  2. Restocking in the Nalón-Narcea basin with salmon and trout fingerlings.
  3. Restocking in the Nalón-Narcea basin with embryonated eggs.
  4. Inventory and mapping of spawning areas in the Nalón-Narcea basin using Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques.
  5. Cleaning and conditioning of river banks in the basins of the Nalón-Narcea, Sar and rivers of Cantabria through volunteering.
  6. Introductory courses to fishing and advanced fishing techniques to be developed in fishing schools.
  7. Fly assembly courses to be developed in fishing schools.
  8. Publication edition: magazine “El pescador”.
  9. Environmental education talks in schools.
  10. Talks, conferences, presentations at conferences, fairs, events related to nature and fishing.
  11. Editing of materials: didactic material for schoolchildren, leaflets, posters, etc.
