CEIDA contributes to the conservation of the biodiversity of the Biosphere Reserves of Galicia with a project for the control of invasive alien species.
The Center for University Extension and Environmental Dissemination of Galicia (CEIDA) launched the project “Campaign for the prevention and control of invasive alien species in the Biosphere Reserves of Galicia” with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment with the intention of to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity through a training and awareness campaign for the prevention and control of invasive alien species in the Biosphere Reserves of Galicia.
The project has made it possible to launch a workshop to identify the main invasive alien species and to develop a volunteer program in which 128 volunteers participated who removed 530 kilograms of the main exotic species Azolla filiculoides, Carpobrotus edulis, Conyza canadensis, Helychrisum petiolare.
In addition, it has been prepareda guide to invasive species, sent to more than 7,000 entities and people linked to the reserves,that serves to disseminate the knowledge obtained from the project and better conserve the fauna and flora of the protected area. Informative workshops and a seminar have also been held, which has had the participation of 71 people between different profiles.
