These activities are related to several essential aspects of the implementation of the CBD, undoubtedly the most important legal instrument in relation to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The CBD recognizes the critical role that indigenous communities and their knowledge, innovations and practices play in meeting the objectives of the CBD.
Among others, within the framework of the 2010 Target, the objective of “Maintaining the socio-cultural diversity of indigenous and local communities” was adopted as a path towards biodiversity conservation.
