The objective of this initiative is to learn about the situation of the artisanal fishery and the socio-economic situation of the community of Yoff, located on the Cape Verde Peninsula, in Senegal.
Fishing activity in a community is defined by the legal, institutional and management framework in which it is carried out; by the nature of the community that carries out the fishing activity and by the characteristics of the environment that supports this activity.
For this reason, in order to achieve sustainable fisheries and a strengthening of the community’s economic network, quality information from these fields is needed. In this sense, in order to know the situation of the artisanal fishery and the social and economic situation of the community of Yoff, three main lines of action will be developed:
- Definition of the legal, institutional and management framework, as well as the agents involved in the fishing activity.
- Characterization of the resources exploited by the community.
- Characterization of the fishery and marketing mechanisms.
All this will allow an evaluation to be carried out based on quality information obtained directly from the agents involved and to carry out an exploratory analysis of the current situation of the fishery, detecting its problems and potentialities, the basis of future management plans for the sustainability of resources and improvement of the socio-economic situation of the community.
