The objective is to install beehives to enhance the productivity of the forests, promoting their capacity for conservation and natural expansion.
The objective is to install beehives to enhance the productivity of the forests, promoting their capacity for conservation and natural expansion.
In addition, it is intended to promote rural development through the reactivation of beekeeping activity, which is currently in a situation of regression, disappearing from many areas that are not beekeeping productive, especially in forests and mountain areas.
The specific objectives for each of the project’s lines of action are as follows:
Pollination apiaries. This program aims to improve the productivity of the vegetation cover of ecosystems with deficiencies in entomophilic pollination. It is expected that this improvement will have an impact on the production of fruits and seeds of plants, which will contribute to the renewal of the vegetation cover and the improvement of the diet of small mammals and birds, some of which are protected species. In addition, the maintenance of all the pollination apiaries installed in previous projects will be carried out.
Beehives for the beginning. The purpose is to help people who have taken a beekeeping course so that they can have their first hives after it. This is intended to facilitate the incorporation of new beekeepers, contribute to the maintenance of the rural population and the pollination of rural areas.
Recover the swarms. Swarms that are located or reported to the Friends of Bees Foundation will be removed from urban areas, for their subsequent introduction into hives and that can be used by beekeeping.
The activities to be carried out are:
- Strategic analysis of protected natural areas with degraded areas that have a deficit of pollinators.
- The placement of the pollination apiaries will be offered to the authorities of the different protected areas and the optimal location for them will be identified.
- Purchase and preparation of new hives, which once ready will be transported and installed at the destination point. Periodic visits will be made to the apiary areas to proceed with their cure and maintenance.
- Preparation of the call for the granting of hives and publication of the information on the website. The beneficiaries in any case will be novice beekeepers from anywhere in Spain, who have completed a beekeeping course.
- Collection of swarms free of charge, recovering them and using them for use in other projects.
