Different groups come together for the recovery of sea turtles

The Spanish Herpetological Association is launching this project that aims to carry out a series of actions in areas of Andalusia and Murcia that help reduce the mortality of sea turtles through the collaboration of groups that develop sports, leisure or free time activities at sea, through the creation of information points and collection of sick and injured turtles.

Among some of the activities that are part of the initiative are; Promote the adhesion to the project of groups such as federations of nautical clubs, sport fishing, diving clubs, as well as other organizations such as regional and national administrations. Another of the activities that are proposed is the development of a network of entities adhered to the project that allows the creation of a minimum of 40 information points and the installation of 20 tanks for the collection of sick or injured turtles. Awareness will be another of the actions that will frame the initiative, through recruitment, promotion and information sessions it is intended to raise awareness among the different groups that participate in the project. Finally, different training activities will be carried out for the member entities. These will consist of training in the protocols and good practices for the rescue, handling and transfer of the collected sea turtles.
