MITECO

The project aims to train professionals involved in the marketing of fishery products, strengthening environmental awareness regarding the sustainability of fishery resources.

The project aims to train professionals involved in the marketing of fishery products, strengthening environmental awareness regarding the sustainability of fishery resources.

In this sense, skippers, sailors, restaurateurs, fishermen and intermediary distributors will be trained in the following aspects:

  • Knowledge about the sustainable origin of the products they sell.
  • Learning about the fishing gear that has been used to capture the fish and the environmental benefits of these.
  • Knowledge of the seasons and closed seasons of each species.
  • Principles of fair trade.
  • Training to correctly inform the consumer.
  • Traceability: knowledge of the trajectory of the product from its capture to its arrival at the fishmonger.
  • To make fishermen, fishmongers, restaurateurs and consumers aware of the slow-food movement, which claims and defends the biodiversity of food reserves.

This initiative also aims to promote sustainable fishing and the promotion of responsible consumption of fish from artisanal fishing gear, enhancing the economic viability of a production system that contributes to social, economic and environmental sustainability due to its low environmental impact.
