Environmental Information Workshop for Journalists

MITECO

With these workshops, APIA seeks to underline the importance of journalists in the fight against climate change.

This project of the Association of Environmental Information Journalists (APIA) consists of the organization of environmental information workshops for journalists, with which it seeks to underline the importance of the work of information professionals in the fight against climate change.

This initiative aims to raise awareness and train journalists who do not specialise in the environment about the important role that journalists have when it comes to disseminating the problem of climate change.

15 12-hour training workshops will be held in 15 cities in Spain, in which attendees will be offered a module to approach journalism specialized in the environment. They will then be given a module that will allow them to learn about the problem of climate change, its treatment in the media, the institutions involved and the degree of existing information on this problem.

In addition, participants will be able to visit a company whose activity is related to the environment in order to observe its contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions or a natural space in order to learn about the uniqueness of its biodiversity and the effects caused by climate change.

To conclude the theoretical training, journalists will be given a workshop on environmental information on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. In terms of practical training, after visits to the companies or the natural space, those attending the workshop will have to write a news item and see which medium would fit best, in addition to trying to disseminate the information on social networks.
