The project developed by the Centre for University Extension and Environmental Dissemination of Galicia (CEIDA) aimedto contribute to the conservation and knowledge of biodiversity in Galician Biosphere Reserves through an environmental participation programme for the phenological monitoring of indicator species of flora and fauna.
The implementation of the environmental participation programme has been designed with the aim of contributing to the conservation of biodiversity in these territories. Using as a basis the Phenological Monitoring Program of the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves, which seeks to monitor ecological changes and behavioral indicators of species throughout the Peninsula, grouped into three groups: birds, vegetation and invertebrates. The project has contributed to increasing knowledge of biodiversity and the effects of climate change in the surroundings of the six Galician Biosphere Reserves, stimulating the population to participate, as visitors to them, in the environmental participation program for the phenological monitoring and the state of biodiversity in these spaces.
In addition, the development of the project has contributed to the formalisation of the Galician Network of Biosphere Reserves, specifically in the development of the Decree for the Creation of the Galician Network of Biosphere Reserves.
