ADEGA has launched this project with the intention of disseminating the problems generated by invasive alien species in aquatic ecosystems.

The Association for the Ecological Defense of Galicia (ADEGA) has launched the project “Environmental volunteering network for the elimination of invasive species in aquatic ecosystems”, with the intention of disseminating the problems posed by invasive alien species present in aquatic ecosystems.

The initiative aims to carry out informative actions both on these species and on environmental volunteering and to encourage the participation of volunteers in the conservation actions of aquatic and river ecosystems.

With this initiative, the association hopes to raise awareness among more than 2,000 people through the celebration of 20 training days that are expected to be attended by around 50 people. It will also organize three days of elimination of invasive exotic species in two protected areas of Galicia, in which it is expected that some 60 volunteers will collaborate.

These actions are expected to contribute to the elimination of these species in the two spaces. In addition, a protocol of action against them will be published.

To this end, different activities are planned:

  • Publish 2,000 brochures and 300 informative posters on invasive alien species and the risk they pose.
  • Advise on the inspection and identification of these species in Galician rivers thanks to environmental volunteering.
  • Carry out two volunteer days: one weekend and two one-day days.
  • Design and produce an action protocol for the elimination of these species with environmental volunteering.
