In the privileged spaces that are our Marine Reserves, the main mission of PESCARES is to ̋Give Voice to its Protagonists ̋, to generate encounter and harmony through dialogue and participation in the results of the project, from respect, care and responsibility for a management with a Guarantee of the Future.

The main objective of PESCARES is to seek the meeting between the different actors that operate in these marine reserves of fishing interest with the clear purpose of promoting and protecting fishing and natural resources.

General:

To promote and encourage the protection and conservation of the fisheries and natural resources of the marine reserves of fishing interest in Spain and Natura 2000 Network areas within the scope of the PESCARES V project.

Specific:

1. To improve the management of the Cabo Tiñoso marine reserve, as well as the Natura 2000 Network areas they host, through governance work through the meeting and reciprocal training process between the different users of the marine reserves and to maintain and improve the state of comfort of the Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas marine reserves, Cabo de Gata-Níjar and Columbretes Islands, Tabarca Island, Levante Mallorca-Cala Ratjada and Punta de la Restinga-Mar de las Calmas by monitoring and controlling the initiatives developed in previous phases of PESCARES.

2. Develop initiatives not initially contemplated, both sectoral and collective, in conjunction with the Administrations, that promote collaborative work and guide management from the point of view of the sectors that operate in the Marine Reserves.

3. To highlight the social benefit of Marine Reserves and Natura 2000 Network areas in the marine environment as an example of sustainable fishing and synergies between artisanal fishing, recreational diving and the scientific sector.


The activities that will be carried out during the development of "PESCARES V" are mainly:

  1. To facilitate methodologies, already tested in previous phases of PESCARES, based on the exchange of knowledge and dialogue, with the premise of, firstly, taking care of reserve by booking, secondly, the collective benefit and, thirdly, the benefit of each user.
  2. Exchange of information as a tool for disseminating the value of Marine Reserves of Fishing Interest.
  3. Involve users to raise public awareness so that they are actively and informed to get involved in the conservation of marine biodiversity.
  4. To value the social benefit of the Marine Reserves of Fishing Interest as an example of sustainable fishing and the synergies between artisanal fishing, recreational diving and the scientific sector, giving voice to the PROTAGONISTS of these spaces.
  5. To lay the foundations in the fight against poaching as the real enemy of the reserve and of the users, of the citizens and of the guarantor of the future, with the consensus of all the actors and the Central Administration.
  6. To hold participatory work meetings and workshops, aimed at innovation in initiatives and to establish synergies, which will mean the forum for governance, exchange of ideas, and proposals for improvement in the management and uses of Marine Reserves of Fishing Interest.
  7. Generation of audiovisual material, which will serve to present to the public the value of Marine Reserves of Fishing Interest, with special prominence of artisanal fishing.
  8. To present the PROTAGONISTS, the concept already defined in previous phases, as users and managers.
