Give a Forest is a 100% solidarity awareness campaign, which has aimed to unite sport with the environment.
The initiative responds to the clear objective of raising awareness among the population of the devastating effects of fire on our forests. The project has been developed through an awareness campaign in the media, with the collaboration of public figures from the world of sport and organizing a series of races through different burned forests in Spain.
Participation in sporting events tries to have a high impact on athletes and walkers, as the itinerary runs through areas totally devastated by fire. In this way, a run or a walk, which should be very pleasant, becomes an exercise for reflection.
Each participant has donated eight euros for their bib, which has been allocated entirely to the reforestation of the forest where the race has taken place. In total, 500 people have participated in six races. The participants have been divided into two categories: runner or walker. The runner has completed a 10 km race with a high slope and to participate he had to have a certain level and some experience in mountain races. The walker has made a 5 km route through the devastated area, with very little slope, being suitable for a more popular profile ideal for families.
The races have been held in El Ronquillo, in Seville; Monte Deva, in Gijón; Ribadavia, in Ourense; Aliaga, in Teruel; Pancorbo, in Burgos, and the Sierra de Huétor Natural Park, in Granada.
