The objective of the project is to reach land stewardship agreements with the owners or holders of land use rights to create and co-manage, in a sustainable way, a Network of Reserves or Green Belt, which covers a complete representation of the main Cantabrian coastal habitats.
The work area of this initiative is limited to 20 natural spaces that surround the Bay of Santander, belonging to 13 municipalities of the metropolitan area of the Bay, currently owned by city councils, coastal demarcations, neighborhood councils and individuals.
The spaces include all the wide variety of natural habitats that can be found in the Cantabrian coastal area, with an area of 1,708.6 hectares. In this first phase of the project, work will be done on the delimitation on a scale of 1:5,000 of the spaces of the Reserve, justified on the basis of environmental and legal-social reasons.
In addition, management agreements will be formalised with the owners of the land, and a management framework document and a specific one for each of them will be drafted, giving impetus to the existence of a social environment that knows and positively values the existence of the Green Belt.
Finally, the execution of demonstrative pilot actions will be undertaken in two of these spaces.
