HueCO Tool for calculating the Carbon Footprint of Works

MITECO

HueCO is a tool for calculating the Carbon Footprint of the construction and operation of an Infrastructure Project that provides an approximate measure of GHG emissions throughout the useful life of an infrastructure.

HueCO is a tool for calculating the Carbon Footprint of the construction and operation of an Infrastructure Project that provides an approximate measure of GHG emissions throughout the useful life of an infrastructure.

The project presented consists of the design, construction and validation of a compilation of two databases, on which the Application will be based. The first, BDES, includes those work units that contribute “significantly” to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and that, together, will be responsible for more than 80% of them for a given infrastructure; the second, BDFE, will adapt databases of universal emission factors to the Spanish case and will be completed with those factors not studied. Its architecture is based on the integration of 2 dynamic databases: Units of Work with Significant Footprint (BDHS) and Emission Factors (BDFE).

To achieve these objectives, an action plan has been drawn up in 12 phases, of which the following five will be carried out in the first year

  • Knowing the universal state of the art of similar applications: What architecture? Which data source?
  • Investigate the significance of the carbon footprint of the most frequent work units. Which ones will make up the initial database? What error is expected after this filter?
  • Investigate the numerous bases of international emission factors; define adaptation criteria and discriminate which ones(ies) can be adapted to the cases of Spain (first year) and Latin America (successive years). Have an adapted BDFE.
  • Design, execution and validation of the “HueCO v01” Application in infrastructures of a given typology (e.g. High Speed) in the construction phase, integrating it into other applications in the sector, such as “Presto” or similar and facilitating the “community-built-application” mode.
  • Monitoring, evaluation and dynamization of the application among Tecniberia companies. With the collaboration of CEDEX for this phase.
