The project has consisted of the organization of the First Ibero-American Congress of Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (GIAL) as a platform for dissemination, debate, exchange of knowledge, training and training in this field.

The meeting, held on 25, 26 and 27 January 2012 in the city of Cadiz, was attended by more than 300 delegates from 20 countries. In total, more than 200 works related to the management of the Ibero-American coast and its resources were presented.
The congress was attended by representatives of more than 90 institutions belonging to 13 Ibero-American countries, integrated in the Ibermar Network (CYTED).
The objectives of the congress have been:
- To ensure the highest scientific-technical quality, training and dissemination of the event.
- To guarantee the operation of the congress through the correct management of resources.
- Organization of the tasks designed to constitute the platform for dissemination, debate, training and training on Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (GIAL) for Ibero-America, in addition to facilitating its continuity.
Within the framework of the project, the activities have been those that obey the organization of a meeting of these characteristics: the organizational design of the Scientific Committee of the Congress, the definition of the contents and the choice of speakers, the preparation of the final program and the publication of the workbook, papers and abstracts of communications, among others.
Likewise, tasks have been carried out to disseminate the event, in addition to the planning and development of activities parallel to the congress and coordination with other events.
