The main objective of the project is to improve the conservation status of habitats and species of community interest in the Cantabrian coast.
“Integration of human activities in the conservation objectives of the Natura 2000 Network in the litoral of Cantabria (CONVIVE-LIFE)” is the project being carried out by the Environmental Hydraulics Institute Foundation of Cantabria with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment. The main objective of the project is to improve the conservation status of habitats and species of community interest, through the implementation of demonstrative actions of ecological and functional restoration (hydrodynamics), which guarantee the sustainability of the environment: by promoting the CONVIVENCIAncia of the conservation of the elements of the Natura 2000 Network with the development of different anthropic uses: cultural-educational, tourism and productive.
This overall objective can be broken down into the following specific objectives:
- Restore a favorable conservation status of some estuarine habitats of community interest in the Natura 2000 Network of Cantabria.
- To reduce direct pressures on biological diversity and thus improve the conservation status of habitats and species in these sites of community interest, which are sensitive to such pressures.
- Promote the sustainability of the development of productive, educational-cultural and tourism activities at river mouths, minimizing their effects and promoting the conservation of the biodiversity of these ecosystems.
- To improve the development of ecological restoration actions in the estuaries of the Atlantic Biogeographic Region by promoting participatory planning, knowledge management and dissemination of results.
- To improve the state of conservation of estuarine avifauna habitat in the whole of the coastal Natura 2000 Network of Cantabria, through the design and drafting of a flood management plan for coastal lagoons (natural and anthropogenic).
