The Brown Bear Foundation promotes a project for the protection of its eastern Cantabrian population with actions of the Strategy for the Conservation of the Cantabrian Brown Bear
“Cantabrian Bear: actions to improve the conservation status of the eastern subpopulation” with this name the Brown Bear Foundation developed the project to improve the conservation status of the threatened eastern subpopulation of the Cantabrian mountain range of brown bears with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment. To this end, during 2016, it has developed actions that were contemplated in the Strategy for the Conservation of the Cantabrian Brown Bear in the regions of Cantabria and Castilla y León.
The main actions include monitoring and expanding knowledge of this subpopulation, monitoring and reducing its risks to increase its survival and supporting the maintenance of jobs linked to the rural environment and bear conservation.
In addition, work has also been done to promote awareness and information about the situation of the bear through environmental education, training and dissemination activities, such as educational itineraries guided by the region, talks for schoolchildren or fairs and events.
