SUBMON develops an educational dissemination project on the importance of the sea, species and marine spaces in Spain.
“Inland Sea: Dissemination and education actions, in primary schools, on the importance of the sea, species and marine protected areas of Spanish waters” is the name of the project carried out by SUBMON with the help of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment to promote knowledge of the sea and its biodiversity in the Spanish population.
Due to the lack of information on the marine environment that is included in the curricular content of primary school students in Spanish rural schools, in 2014 the project “Inland Sea: Dissemination and education actions on the marine environment in rural schools in the interior of Spain” was developed, which aimed to disseminate marine biodiversity in general and the species and protected areas found in the Spanish coast in particular.
This new initiative aims to give continuity to the “Mar Interior” project in order to increase knowledge about the sea, species and protected areas of the Spanish coast in all primary school students in Spain. In addition, in this new edition , the concept of Ocean Literacy and its seven principles is being disseminated . Ocean Culture is based on understanding the influence that the sea and oceans have on us, and ours on them.
To achieve the objectives, 100 primary schools in 12 provinces of 6 autonomous communities of the Spanish state that do not have a coastline and that were not visited in the first edition are being visited.
The project is carrying out participatory talks and workshops. In addition, new educational content and audiovisual resources are being created in parallel and will be hosted on the www.marinterior.info web platform.
