Integrated management of the Mediterranean forest for the conservation of endangered species

MITECO

The project seeks to develop, through the establishment of land stewardship agreements, conservation actions for endangered species in the Mediterranean forest, specifically the Iberian imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx.

The project seeks to develop, through the establishment of land stewardship agreements, conservation actions for endangered species in the Mediterranean forest, specifically the Iberian imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx.

Work will be carried out on private farms on three pillars: the detection and characterisation of threats (in order to communicate them to the competent administrations), the development of actions aimed at resolving threats and training, both in good practices and in land stewardship, aimed at owners and managers of private farms in Mediterranean forests.

In short, the unnatural mortality factors of the Iberian imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx will be detected and eliminated, in addition to improving the feeding conditions of these species.

The specific objectives are:

  • Characterize, evaluate and communicate threats to threatened species caused by human action, through the realization of specific transects.
  • Improve the availability of rabbits, through the creation of shelters and the promotion of their food resources (crops and natural pastures).
  • Promote training in good management practices for property owners.
  • Improve the perception of land stewardship by private owners for the co-management of their land.
