The project aims to deepen the knowledge of the bat fauna of the Fragas do Eume Natural Park located in La Coruña. The aim is to inventory the species and bat refuges in the park, characterize the use of resources by the different species and carry out a cartography of species distribution and zoning of the park by areas of interest.
The actions of this project are detailed below:
- Start-up of capture stations for hand-held identification, data collection and biological samples.
- Implementation of listening stations for the identification of species by ultrasound and placement of automated recording equipment for the detection and identification of species activity.
- Identification of cryptic species by DNA analysis.
- Location of refuges of discrete species by radio-tagging of specimens.
- Checking potential shelters, waiting with detectors, and setting traps at exits.
- Characterization of the use of refuges and their relationship with environmental variations.
- Study on the different areas of interest in the park and its surroundings: refuges, night perches and feeding areas.
- Obtaining a potential distribution model for each species.
- Preparation of a park management proposal for the conservation of bat populations.
- Design and testing of a methodology to monitor the evolution of bat populations in the medium term.
