The Ramón González Ferreiro Foundation, a dissemination project on sustainable development in biosphere reserves.

The Ramón González Ferreiro Foundation, with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, has developed the project “Knowledge Network of the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves”.

Spanish biosphere reserves have accumulated a lot of practical knowledge on sustainable development in 30 years. The dissemination of such knowledge is normally limited to face-to-face communication interventions by managers. However , this information is useful for all professionals, leaders and active groups dedicated to the sustainability of natural resources and territorial management, whether in protected or development areas.

The actions carried out in the project have served to extract practical knowledge from actions towards sustainability and to provide training and reflection resources, with final results that are potentially useful for different types of audiences: decision-makers and planners, professionals in training and in practice, scientists, agents of the MAB Programme Reserves and networks, general public and media.

The development of the project has made it possible to analyse the state of development of the network of protected areas in Spain and its contribution to ecosystem services and the contribution of LIFE+ projects to conservation.
