The Foundation for Research in Ecology and Biodiversity (FIEB) launched this project with the aim of creating the European mink genetic resources bank in Spain.
Captive breeding of the European mink (Mustela lutreola) has been giving very good results in recent years, with a captive population large enough to carry out releases in the field. However, until now there was no genetic resource bank for this population, which would allow a sample of the population to be used, as a resource in the recovery of the species. Despite starting from scratch, thanks to this project, the importance of this project has been made known nationally and internationally, as well as developing together with INIA a protocol for the sending, extraction and conservation of the samples taken.
