It is a planning and management system for the coastal environment of the island of La Palma, a World Biosphere Reserve.
The main objective is to diagnose the current situation of coastal resources, define the areas of greatest biodiversity and create a zoning model that makes economic development compatible with the natural values it houses.
To this end, the design and creation of a set of tools based on geographic information systems has been planned, which allow an effective interpretation and assessment of the environment.
The specific actions of the project are as follows:
- Preparation of a descriptive report of benthic communities and the state of conservation of ecosystems.
- Holding working groups with local actors and a scientific-technical monitoring commission.
- Development of a database associated with a management unit.
- Creation of an atlas of digital thematic cartography.
- Creation of a coastal classification and zoning model.
- Preparation of a proposal for the planning of the island’s coastline.
- Development of an outreach program.
- Creation of a system of indicators, a time series of data and predictive models of the state of conservation.
