It is planned to apply the Ecological Niche Modelling methodology for 650 Iberian plant species and in mountain national parks, which allows predicting the current distribution of the species and projecting it under future environmental conditions.
The models will be calibrated under current climate conditions and then projected to six different climate change scenarios developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), for 2020, 2050 and 2080. Thus, the ultimate goal of this project is to determine:
- Changes in the potential distribution of plant species in the Iberian Peninsula and new areas to be conserved due to their potential to host plant biodiversity in the future.
- The potential impact of 25 invasive alien species.
- Specific impacts on the plant biodiversity of the selected national parks.
