Euphorbia fontqueriana is a species endemic to the island of Mallorca (Balearic Islands) listed as Critically Endangered in 2017.
Only one natural locality is known, which is difficult to access, which is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana, a protected natural area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In recent years, the Government of the Balearic Islands has carried out a pilot test of translocation of the species in another town in the Sierra de Tramuntana, although the demographic status of the natural population and many basic aspects of the biology of the species, such as reproductive biology, are unknown.
The state of conservation and the lack of knowledge about the biology of this threatened endemism make a scientific study extremely necessary to lay the foundations for the development of the corresponding recovery plan.
The main objective of the project is to obtain information about the demographic status of Euphorbia fontqueriana Greuter, characterize the habitat and study basic aspects of the biology of the species.
It has the following specific goals:
Multimethodological approach for the conservation of ‘Euphorbia fontquerinana’, an endemism of the island of Mallorca in Critical Danger of Extinction
